>>932834I feel you bro. I graduated with BS Comp Sci right after dot com bubble popped. Entry level jobs were being filled by candidates with 5-10 years of experience.
It all works out in the end if you're smart and a hard worker, doesn't matter what you're degree is in.
high school ->
top tier university (at which I didn't apply myself and developed a drinking problem, didn't bother with internships) ->
no "career" job for over a year (BS Comp Sci just after .com bubble popped) ->
60 hour week job in NYC for $45k, got the interview due to nepotism (lived with parents, 90 min commute each way, every day. I hated it but looking back it was a tremendous learning experience all around) ->
two years and two jobs later $85k ->
following year consulting software engineer at $60/hr c2c in the south ->
$70/hr following year and stagnated for 2 more years due to great recession ->
Unemployed for (only) three months due to budget cuts cancelling project ->
next year long gig $75/hr ->
next year long gig $80-85/hr ->
next year long gig $98/hr that turned into a 4 year gig at $110/hr
Things have been good for me the last several years but I'm not sure how to progress from here.
