Hello /biz/

I have a second round interview for a Buisness Analyst postion middle of next week at a 3PL for P&G.

I know there will be a skills test, and was told it will involve VBA and SQL along with some internal 3pl software.

I have not done VBA for years. And have very little SQL experience.

Can you guys help me find sources to cram it enough for the interview.

Any idea what type of VBA i might be writing?

The job is listed as an entry level and i know there is one other out of company candidate.

Tldr. What to cram for VBA and SQL practical at interview

Expect technical questions-- It's hard to bullshit technical questions, so study hard the next few days.

What is an inner join?
When would using HAVING be preferable to WHERE?
Write a query to show just the last 4 digits of a social security number.
Write a query to show daily revenues by region in 2015

>for VBA:
Write code to copy all the .xls files from one folder into a new folder.

>for Excel:

Make a pivot chart for the general manager -- what information do you think she would want to see?

Sql is my weakest area.

It and VBA are whay i am focusing on.

Are you a Comp Sci grad then? On a side note, I attended St. Patrick's this year and it was a blast. There was a bit of a culture shock since I was attending SLU at the time and didn't expect everything to be so hick, but once I started getting drunk everything was awesome.

I recently accepted a Business/Financial Analyst position in the STL area and the technical questions that >>935676 posted are probably good to study up on, but they're probably a little more advanced than technical questions you'll actually get. Just make sure to demonstrate your skills through stories during the interview process. Also be energetic and try to work the interviewers. The three offers I got were all from interviews where I had the hiring manager and other interviewers laughing and engaged in the conversation.

The most difficult questions you'll have would be ones meant to understand your train of thought. Stuff like "How many cars are in the city of St. Louis?" or "How many eighteen Wheeler trucks are currently in the state of Missouri?" And the trick with those is to justify the assumptions you make while calculating the number.

I am actually a BS Econ from rolla.

I started out in engineering and hated it.

Switch to econ bs and loved it.

I am registered and sitting for the cfa level 1 in june. And my plan is to go to SLU and get a Masters of Science in Applied Financial Economics. Ive met with the dean and chair of the program , had a nice 3 hour meeting, sat in on some classes.

What firm are you at in stl?

Wells, edward jones, Scott, any of thr dozens in clayton area, stieffle?

I'm a Financial Analyst but I don't work in the finance industry. The place I work has a high profile in the region and I guarantee you've heard of it. Sorry about being dodgy, but there's probably less than 8 people with my job title in the industry within the region and I'd rather not dox myself.

I had interviewed for Edward Jones & Wells Fargo's Analyst rotational programs while in school but didn't get picked. I understood Edward Jones because it was easily the worst job interview I've ever given (I physically cringe when I think about it), but Wells Fargo was disappointing since I nailed the interview and didn't even hear back.

A few of my friends actually just graduated from the MSAFE program, I know SLU is really trying to develop it. I'm considering potentially enrolling in that if I can get my employer to foot a decent portion of the bill. Or maybe Wash U's MS in Finance, but I kinda want to keep the Econ focus since I'd like to use a Econ Masters to get into something more policy based like a think tank or economic consulting firm.

I would love to to a msafe at slu , then an MBA as wash u.

Girl friend works at wells in the compliance dept. She said they do very little hiring feom the stl area at the moment.

I agree. If Wash U had an Applied Economics M.S. I could take, I would be there in a heartbeat, but they only have a PhD program.
