How is it possible to own a house? Say you make a modest 50k per year after tax and expenses and house is 1 million in value, it would take me 20 years to pay off.

You usually don't fully pay off your house ever, since you still have the value of the house if you decide to sell it.
You usually loan money to build/buy a house, and then pay a fee every month so the debt won't exceed what the house is worth, leaving you fucked if you decide to move.

I live by myself in a very decent sized flat
I have a mortgage which is about 17% of my income, so easily affordable. Also, it is shrinking, because I make overpayments so I can pay it off quicker.

however i agree it is probably more common than the "other" category in that chart. and it does appear that they do not have "terraced" as a housing type unless it is just "house"
