In the next 30 years:
>space tourismThere are people who'd pay 1m for a month in LEO. Not a huge amount but probably thousands.
In the next 100 years:
>semi-privately organised colonisation of Mars that will result in a USA clone planetary government, complete with struggle for independence Hopefully it won't be the SJW that will do that and there will be an improved USA-like constitution that will reinforce people's freedoms and selective immigration (PhDs, intelligent, hard working and successful people, which is hereditary both genetically and culturally) will create a nation of highly intelligent individuals. That's my pipe dream though, it probably won't happen.
Furthermore, if you read any interview with leading scientists, you'll find out that a huge number of them would take the chance to colonise Mars, so barring special circumstances, there will be a huge brain drain on earth scale. An emerging nation consisting of people with average iq at least a standard deviation above earth average will be both interesting and a huge threat.
Economically, any successful martian colony will have virtually infinite resources in the asteroid belt, especially if we assume they'll have space elevators. They'll start just like USA, selling resources for cheap to earth until they get a significant population and establish industry. They could overtake USA in 50-100 years in technological success (abundance of rare earth metals, Au, Ag and Pt will be a significant influence, not to mention the need for new technologies in order to survive the frozen shithole Mars currently is) and the earth in 100-200 years in economical output. USA GDP / USA area * Mars area is in order of $100 trillion.
I really wonder how'd USA react, probably forbid people to leave and do everything to stop rocket launches while sending their own troops to stop the colonists. Public reaction will be interesting, especially given their own history.
