How fucking long do business keep job applications and sit on them until they feel like calling you about the job you applied for?

I just got a strange phone call from a trucking company calling about a job application they received. The kicker is that the name of the person they got the application from matches my step-father's name, who's a truck driver by trade, but he's been dead for over four years.
