I have two options to hire.

Recommended (e.g. nepotism)

- If he does well, great.
- Person who recommended is happy with my decision regardless

Other (non-nepotism):
- If he fucks up my fault
- If he does well, great.
- Person who recommended person #1 is pissed, and doubly pissed if person #2 fucks up.

traditional nepotism doesn't exist in the same way in the west - HR clamps down on it a lot... it isn't as simple for a westerner to get a job at some big bank purely because their uncle is an MD there

it is, on the other hand, simple for an asian person to land a job on the basis that they're related to someone politically important or their parents comapny is a customer of the bank and worth a lot of money to the trading desk

in the west it is more complicated and you're going to have to still jump through various hoops like at least get a decent school on your CV - which can be helped by nepotism - and some form of internship, which can be helped by a combination of school + contacts from family

but the traditional nepotism of the uncle simply bringing in his nephew doesn't work so well these days... well unless he owns a significant chunk of the company

If it's not for an entry or paper pushing position at a company with a HR department you will still have to do an interview.

I know a guy that knew the board of directors of a bank and he still had to do an interview. The benefit was he didn't need to bring in a resume, he just had to show his shit to hr on the day and they let him through after that. He got 120k a year for signing documents for JV's, IPO's etc.

holy shit I hope you don't believe this. I worked for a major bank and literally everyone in entry level positions had a relative or family friend in higher up positions.
