how to get into web development?

I want a career in web development. I've been working bullshit customer service jobs for several years and have a completely unrelated and useless degree.

I know HTML/CSS and I'm learning more about JavaScript now. I'm going through the Odin Project, I've done a bunch of junk on Codecademy, etc etc

So what are the steps to getting into this field? I know I need to build up a portfolio and I've added some projects to my GitHub, and I'm working on an actual portfolio site. But what else should I do, what should I learn?

Find some good developers in India. (odesk etc) Cold call 20 businesses a day around your area and offer to rebuild/make their website responsive/do some social media stuff.
Work on your cold call technique.
Base their sites of wordpress templates and run the changes etc through your indians, upload to a server you share with other clients.

You can make a lot of money doing this. Don't bother to learn to much of developing, learn more in sales.

And how do you get the website up for the customer? You need to have their hosting login?

Customers will never be happy and they have no idea what they want. The web design industry has absolutely nothing to do with being competent or designing websites that function. Just slap wordpress sites together with free themes.

Web design is sales, friend, and if you're a good salesmen, just get into real-estate or used cars instead.
