>>942327thing is, even when you say, "I was homeless for years after my safety net collapsed, opening at a gym so that I could have a place to shower and shave, I studied and busted my ass and now I'm a bit more than marginally successful and still busting my ass and oh by the way I've done these amazing things," then the kind of people who think that you have no control over your life cry: "that's just anecdotal experience!"
Otherwise, that means that the reason why they fail is because they're not working hard enough, and being honest with yourself and having willpower is hard. It's easier to think that you have no control over your life, and the best way to do that is by deriding people who think differently.
It's like arguing with a tree. A tree that wants you to be a smaller tree.
>>942377It's not about money, or about doing what you dislike. I love being a data scientist, and I love making tons of money doing it. I won't be happy unless I can do /more/ than that though, hence side projects with the other 1/3 of my time spent not sleeping. What exactly is your point? That because you can't control what happens to you in your life because it's all luck, you should only do what you love? Seems to me that when you like doing something, it's because you're good at it, and you want to be better at it. Luck doesn't really play into that much. Seems pretty much an internal thing.
