Videos that focus on craftsmanship of the costumes are my favorite. G&J Productions do this really well.

I'd like less silly videos tbh. Or at least, don't call a video a cosplay showcase when all it is a bunch of friends dancing and pulling faces. They're awkward to watch if you don't personally know the people in the video.

Lip synch videos tend to such as the videographer is only content with getting the lip synching and not making the footage interesting

Less boring-ass steadycam pans. It's a copout; it covers up your lack of videography skills. If they're gonna be steadycam shots, make the person do something related to the character, film them INSIDE the con, with people in the background, make it dynamic and give me some god damned post-con nostalgia.

When I watch postcon vids of one con, I see the same cosplayers, over and over and over again in the same boring pans. Film people who aren't "perfect." Chances are, they might be the people who act more in-character than the perfect cosplayers who stress out about having a pretty/static face throughout the entire shot.

I think it was Deerstalker Pictures who do close-up detail shots of the actual cosplays people are weearing - please do this. These videos are being watched mainly by cosplayers. We jack off to embroidery and serged hems.

Also, CosplayinAmerica always includes the "average" cosplayers in his stuff and it feels way, way more like a community because of this instead of just watching the "stars" of cosplay. He does interviews rather than music vids, but he shows such a good perspective of the community as a whole.

tl;dr no more boring shit

less generic grey armor that no matter how well-done it is, when seen in a video with other 5 armor cosplays in a row, doesn't stand out at all

and more variety of shows/vidya/movies, and different types of craftmanship; it is nice to show DA BEST of cosplay, but trust me, even the most impressive ballgowns can turn boring if that's the only thing you show

I'd like to see cosplay videos with a story behind it, not just pans and dancing to random songs. Understandably this probably wouldn't happen at a con, but with a photographer on-location.

I don't know whether it's because I found them when I was young, weeby and innocent, and not bored of cosplay videos yet, but I always used to love the Cosplay Fever ones. They always get me excited for cons. I'm from the UK where they're filmed and I haven't seen a video done so well with such a variety of costumes (and not just the same people every time, SZ you guys are great but I'm bored of seeing the same ten people in all your UK videos) from here in a while.

Agreeing with this. SZ are great if you don't know much about the UK con scene but the second you realise that all their videos feature the same 10 cosplayers in different (or the same) outfits, they get boring very quickly. I mean, fair enough, film your friends as its your hobby but don't advertise that you'll film everyone if no one but your friends are going to make the final cut because "your file was corrupt/the lighting was good".

God bless you. Their videos are good, their effects are getting better, they do good shots and choose good music. But I have a friend, a cosplay actually, who are desperate to get into their videos, and I don't have the heart to tell them it's never going to happen, because they have to put Kerraldine in doing some kind of dance or running around. Nothing against her at all, but it gets boring 10 videos in. I definitely agree with fair enough film your friends, but they now kind of have a reputation as THE UK con videographers and it would be nice if they could maybe leave out a few of their mates. Or do one with their mates, and one with strangers. Their videos of US cons are so much better just because there is that variety.

Cosplay music videos have a style and it's fucking horrible. Stedicam shots are a cop out to show that you don't know shit about setting up a shot. The editing and music is terrible as well.

Ever since SZ's Gary lost all that weight their videos have become even more disappointing. He gets a ton of screen time in their videos for someone wearing really simple cosplays and that results in an awesome cosplay getting cut from the final video or getting featured for half a second. Like others have said, it'd be fine if they were casual videographers but they've actually been sponsored or invited to cons as guests many times, which means they should be producing content that isn't just 15% Gary.

But 100% yes. This goes for every one of the 10 people they always film. If their costumes are amazing, kudos. But if their costumes are frankly a bit crap/overdone/boring/simple/normie etc., they shouldn't be put in over actually amazing cosplayers. Especially when they're in the same video twice, for fuck's sake.

Of course, film your friends, film yourselves, but because they are so popular, they are so looked up to, put out two videos. One of friends, one of the con talent. One of funny/silly/entertaining dances and shit, one of impressive cosplayers. People would watch them. They're that popular, and they seem to dedicate so much time to con videos as it is, would it really be a stretch?

tl;dr when one person gets 3 shots in a video supposed to be showcasing the con, maybe find someone else

Except ever since they made strong connections in the community and only started filming their friends, their video quality has gone down (with the only exception being the May 2015 mcm video). Their 2 most recent videos (NYCC and LFCC) are performing really badly in terms of views compared to previous content they've put out.

I think that's more due to over-exposure and everybody else copying the style. If you look at them in a vacuum, SZ's newest videos are technically better than their early ones. But the style hasn't changed and in that time many other people have also come along making very similar videos. So where they once stood out they are now just the norm.

They need to change it up drastically, create a whole new type of cosplay video. Stand out again. The actual quality isn't the problem, we've just seen this thing a hundred times now.

May Mcm 2015 and LFCC 2015 have the same Agent Carter cosplayer and they had a different one in the LSCC 2015 video. Can't remember their cosplay page name off the top of my head atm.

Nothing against the cosplayer but if you're going to give one cosplay a ton of screen time in two separate videos, give it to a far more impressive and intricate one. A slow mo shot panning over a plain blue blazer isn't the most interesting thing in the world.

They have Lolainprogress in I think every single video they've done, perhaps bar a few earlier ones. She's done Agent Carter in their videos twice, and she's often in their videos twice. And Gary's cosplayed that dude with the walking stick at least three times.

They've also got that dude who cosplays Captain America in the same or very similar costumes every other video.

Like honestly, I go to the cons they film and I see so many better costumes, whether technically better, more original or whatever, that they don't film or use because they have to fit in TigerLily or whoever 2 more times. It's sad.
