What do you guys think of Cuban food?

I think it's pretty terrible. Like all South American cuisine, it's bland and mostly made of chicken, guinea pigs, and potatoes.

Anyone who disagrees with me is probably going crazy about Chipotle even though they don't even have lengua.

You can eat parts of a yucca, but most people haven't

I find Caribbean food pretty good, if you negotiate it well enough. It helps to know the unique history of each island. These places were huge in the slave, sugar and rum trade back in the day, and there were many different cultures involved. Each island has its own mash-up of Old World, African and even South Asian influences using a mix of indigenous and imported ingredients.

There will be high points and low points, because these are young cuisines (400 years is young for a cuisine) from relatively poor places. But the cultural richness they have to pull from can easily make up for that.

tl;dr If you got a bad meal at Cuban place you ordered wrong because you didn't know what's good.

Washington here, no idea what all you people are on about. If anything there's an over service problem when it comes to anything bottomless there. Once had a server give us a new drink as soon as the old one was half done - ended up with 4 glasses per person because of this.

Most stores sell bacon ends, pieces and trimmings even in retail packaging. Its a bit more fat, not sliced, just random chunks not usable for the pretty packs most people buy bacon in.

They're wonderful for rendering all that bacon fat out and using it for something else.

Does raw food retain the same nutritional value when cooked? For example if 230g of raw chicken has around 60g of protein. Would that value be any different when it's cooked?
