Can we have a French toast thread? I just made these for the first time and I loved them. I used sugar, honey and cinnamon. Something tells me that they would be great with some rum in the wash.

Anyhow, how did I do? And what's your secret for the perfect French toast?

Probably weird but I eat french toast as a savoury dish with salt, pepper and worcestershire sauce.

A nice spiced rum could be good, but I usually put vanilla extract, nutmeg and cinnamon into my wash. Use a good crusty bread that will keep most of its integrity after you soak it in wash. Dust with icing sugar and dab some butter on it. Pretty simple.

Thats how French toast is served in India. The idea of a sweet breakfast food is not well accepted there. Nothing fancy, salt and red pepper in the batter. Shallow fried. With ketchup.

Essentially as an eggy take on bread pakora.

I usually have it with a fry up, replacing the hash browns or chips, or with sausages and bacon.

Occasionally I have sunk to the darkest depths of depravity and made a bacon sarnie with eggy bread and brown sauce.
