>tfw like bitter as fuck IPAs but everybody thinks I'm just being a tryhard.

I'm open to most beers that aren't watery or full of failed attempts at artificial flavors.

Pine drops by Deschutes. Nothing crazy, just a solid (obviously piney) ipa. Would buy fresh squeezed over it any day, but I like the fruitier ipas so I'm not too surprised.

There are so many new things being produced today that you just look like an idiot.

If you want to make fun of something make fun of something that's just becoming mainstream. IPA's are entirely commonplace, if you open your eyes to anything other than dirty dish-water macros.

Why not pick on sours, which are clearly the biggest new trend in brewing right now?

I havent tried any US IPA since I dont see too much of it here (UK), and if i did, id avoid it anyway.

My experience of very hoppy beer is a floral taste, which I dont enjoy. Is this the kind of flavour that is being developed in US where muh IPA seems to be everything.

It really depends on the hops they use. I like fruitier citrus ipas so I look for Citra hopped shit since that's pretty popular right now.

It's very floral and almost herb-ish, yes. I like it, I admit we overdid it, things are now settling down and most IPA drinkers are having other beer. And most breweries are figuring out they can't survive anymore just making 10 different ipas.

Sounds similar to what I experienced. Although the only really hoppy beer I drank was an English ale. Typically our beer is bitter, but not floral or hoppy.

Not so much of a craft beer scene in the UK, although its catching on slowly. I think thats probably to do with already having a reasonably strong beer making tradition as it was, and less demand for craft.

Craft beer has been huge in USA for the last 10 years, mainly focused on really extreme styles. The last couple years I've noticed more balanced beers for casual drinking. I'm glad to hear experimental beer is gaining steam in Europe. We will find balance brother. IMO Americans are willing to be experimental, Europeans are stubborn but have solid time tested tradition. We can learn alot from each other about beer, and food in general.

If you're used to bitters and want to try something a little new, but not too crazy, try some midwest ipas or standard pale ales. A lot are extremely well balanced and easy drinking. Two hearted is something that is pretty well liked by most people. If you can give it a try go for it.

I'm a buyer at a bottle shop and both of these are easily available to find pretty much anywhere in California. Funny enough at least here in SoCal they are both distrusted by the same company.
