Reducing sodium content in packaged/prepared foods

I have some stuffing I'd like to make for tonight, but it's got too much salt.

How would you people remove some of it? Thinking maybe I'll add extra water and then pour some of that out before covering it and letting it soak up.

In general do you guys and girls like to do this sort of thing when you cook?
