I have the cringiest mint julep related story:

>working as a bartender in a London themed bar (not in the UK)
>manager is one of those pretentious bartenders who went to bartending school
>huge show-off
>the type who juggles bottles behind the bar to "entertain customers"
>no social skills
>anyway, one very hot summer day, this man comes in to get a pint of beer
>mid 40's, clearly just finished work in construction or some shit (judging by his clothes)
>literally just wants a pint of beer
>manager comes over
>"hello fellow customer how would you like to try something exciting and refreshing today?"
>man is "tf who is this clown?" but decides to humour him
>manager recommends a mint julep
>starts telling him the history of mint as he prepares it, going as far back in time as the days of the Romans
>customer is all ididnotaskforthis.jpeg he clearly just wants to enjoy his beer
>manager finishes the mint julep and give it to customer
>he downs it, clearly doesn't like it, then finishes his pint and leaves
>manager is going all Borat, giving me the "great success" face

Eh. Some people still drink em. It's a solid cocktail when made properly with the right amount of mint and on crushed ice. They really don't have a whole lot of depth to them though.

OP's picture really isn't a proper mint julep. That looks like whiskey on the rocks with a mint sprig garnish.

I'll definitely have to order one when I'm next at the refectory in Plymouth.

I'm quite partial to a gimlet recently. I use the Savoy's version of 1/2 Plymouth Gin and 1/2 Rose's Lime Cordial, but a lot of people seem to frown on Rose's and make their own cordial
