Not sure if this is the right board but it seems to make sense to me

I'm looking into brewing my own beer because I'm an alcoholic and buying beer from the store every 2 days is getting expensive. What's the cheapest way to brew? Do I have to drop a hundred bucks into one of those kits? Or can I just brew beer with simple stuff I can get at Ace?

Would appreciate any brewers out there giving me some advice on how to homebrew, on the cheap
