As a pure crystalline, it does not give off any noticeable odor. However, the ammonium could be deprotonated to ammonia and released by adding alkaline and heating it.
If the licorice didn't smell out to start with, the salmiak is not to blame.
Panda is an excellent brand of licorice, regardless of whether it's sweet or salty. At least you got that right.
