In all honesty, I tried to be interested in the 'New' Canon. I even cleared off an old bookshelf for the new material. But, so far it just hasn't gel'd with me.
So far there have been few/no improvements in retellings and directions, and we have lost a lot of shit, but we also lost masterpieces like Shatterpoint, the Dark Times comics, Dark Forces, KOTOR and the comic series, and Zahns stuff. I also really miss Mara Jade. She was something of a pet character at the times, but to many fans she was the same to them, so it all worked out.
Rebels is at times decent, but generally I find it pretty dull. The best episode was the recent pilot with Vader. The books haven't interested me. The comics seem shallow, introducing new and pointless characters, with others seeming OOC. Battlefront looks shit (aside from the graphics). And for some reason, the Episode 7 trailer has failed to hype me.
I guess coming years will tell. Episode 7 could reignite my love of Star Wars, and interest me in all the new stories. But I think the defrocking of the old EU deflated me, and I've just lost interest in SW. The only reason I even bothered opening this thread was it's related to the old EU.
And really, why bother with the nEU until it actually offers something I can dig my teeth into? The old EU hasn't actually gone anywhere, and is vast. I probably own a massive third of the novels and most of the comics, but there are still years and years of old material to read through. And to top it off; it's a completed story, more or less.
(Image unrelated, because I don't even have any SW pictures anymore, due to lack of interest.)
