i pay attention to hair texture and nose shape. her hair was straight and her nose was a triangle, so she's fine in my eyes. and if she wasn't i wouldn't suddenly act like it was weird that she was in my cartoon.. what the hell happened? when did that become odd?

Pat McHale just said on Twitter that there will be an "abridged" airing of OTGW on Halloween.

He didn't specify what "abridged" meant, but I can assume it cuts out two or four episodes to fit an hour-and-a-half slot on CN.

I hope they do more miniseries in the future. It's an easier way to conclude a series without milking it.

the FEEL is ghiblisauce. the animation is more like somewhere between old 20s cartoons and old 80s shit like wind in the willows, but with the modern sensibilities that have made the 10s so much better than the 00s in terms of cartoons

What are some other media that have the same comfy-creepy storybook retro Americana feels to them as Over the Garden Wall? I've already seen Gravity Falls.
The only thing I can think of right now is pic related. It's a Greek myth set in the 1930s.

Tough question.

The multi-animal hybrid from the most recent comic reminded me of Bill Peet's "The Whingdingdilly" which reminded me of the comfy rural Americana in at least a few of his books. I can't really remember much about them. They don't have a creepy or Halloween vibe though.

Then in the other direction there's Spirited Away which had a nice creepy ghost story feel. But of course it doesn't have any retro Americana at all.

There's ParaNorman. It has ghosts and witchcraft, is set in Massachusetts, and has Puritan characters from the 1700s.

Have you seen Stand By Me? It's a film adaptation of a Stephen King book, set in the 50's-60's, good movie.

Other movies with that retro Americana feel that I can think of are October Sky, Of Mice and Men, Forrest Gump (maybe?), and Fargo.
