He was in that short lived anthology comic in the early New 52, don't think he's been seen since unless he had a cameo in Forever Evil. It's a shame Black Lightening and Blue Devil could've been a great duo comic

The ones people give a shit about are Static and Cyborg. Statics relaunch fell flat on it's ass because of editorial shenanigans. The other 'prominent' black heroes would be John Stewart who has had his own title since Nu52 began, Black Lightning who had a pretty good short story in DC Universe Presents and Mr. Terrific which we know how that turned out.

The movies, anon.
They need:

That narrows it down by a lot.

John Stewart, Cyborg, and Static are their well known black guys. They don't completely own Static and he can't be on the JL anyway, and John isn't Hal.
Black Lightning and Mr Terrific are also candidates, but I think Black Lightning still has rights issues too.
Anyway it does come down to Cyborg being the most well known black guy who isn't a Green Lantern.

Black Lightning is an adaptation of Black Vulcan from the cartoon.

Static is a Milestone character.

John Stewart is a Green Lantern and not Hal.

Steel is a Superman family member.

Cyborg is the most prominent male black DC character who originated as a comic character under DC and who doesn't fall under another hero's legacy in some way. Not to mention that he's just plain more well-known than any other black character due to being in the very popular Teen Titans cartoon and being in the currently airing very popular other Teen Titans cartoon.

Cyborg's only problem is being primarily a Teen Titan and not a Justice Leaguer, which is why he was included in the rebooted Justice League instead.

You got that backwards anon, they were having rights issues with Black Lightning's creator so they made Black Vulcan in the cartoon since they couldn't use Black Lightning

We're past the point of pushing, he's in the league, he has his own solo and movie. That's normal. Unless you're Shazam, then you're never getting another solo.

I legitimately enjoy his solo and his stories during forever evil. I guess I would be annoyed if he was a shit character but they've been making a lot of progress on defining him.

And the writters of the New 52 liked him, and decided to push him. Seriously, the writters previously mentioned that they liked him, and thoutgh that promoting him was a good move.

His current run has been enjoyable so far.

Cyborg wasn't originally a genius, he was a jock who was forced to get really good at various types of engineering after having most of his body replaced with robot bits. The five year timeskip in Nu52 JL really robbed him of the chance to develop that.

Mal Duncan has never been a genius. All of his equipment has been hand-me-downs or built by others. Pre-Crisis the dimensional horn was magic.

Black Lightning has been missing ever since his little mini story with Blue Devil in DC Universe Presents. I think they showed up briefly in Justice League as a background cameo, so they still EXIST at least.
