Last weekend's thread we had:

-Discussion about those 4 seasons girls seems to be dying down
-More about JD, Wells, and Theta. What should the name of their city be? And on that note, what should the name of their story be?
-Aliens, what is the name of the symbiote breeder species?
-Cosmic Crusaders anon is getting his drawing groove back.
-Body horror of the Bloom and other Halloween ideas.
-Demon Post Office discussion, reiterating information of the 12 kings due to archive loss.
-The 12 Demon kings have a wiki page now. Two positions are still vacant.
-An idea about a two ships fighting over who gets to carry around a baby.
-Agent Jazz apparently has a silver tongue, along with other info about him.
-Discussion of what the floating island actually looks like.

I think it just has to do with a demon's aura.

They have this kind of aura, magic focused through them in such a high dosage gets some of their color.

None of the demons before the kings ever had access to enough magic to notice it.

Going through the old threads I saved there was the idea for the victorian era woman/middle ages nun who went to the Fae world and ended up being beset by the lewdness of a rugged ranger fae guy and a nearby water nymph.

But a tangential thought hit me: have missionaries ever gone to the Fae world, and if they did, how would that have gone down?

But, saying that, having more cultures in the Fae setting could be done, rather than just variations on magical woodland spirits.

To a certain extent, I think demons are somewhat in the eye of the beholder. Kinda like Dream's helmet, if you've ever read Sandman. The same basic visual theme, but sometimes it's a spined skull, sometimes it's a gas mask, sometimes it's a beast head with a snout, etc.

Some people see fancy clothes, others see tribal markings, others see more modern attire.

Otherworld is accessible to humans the "right" way by doing a bunch of weird things on a solace like putting a mushroom on your left boot or something like that.

If you have sufficient power, you can just smash your way into it (that happened one Christmas).
Or if you have the SCIENCE or magic you can just portal into it. Doctor /Co/ccult or Erin could just make a portal to get there if they needed to.

Normal people can't just walk in there is what I'm saying.

And Otherworld is a pocket dimension that's been tethered to Earth by my understanding of it.
It's on Earth, but it's not on Earth. It's like around Earth, or whatever you interpret pocket dimensions as.
I always see them as space that's been borrowed from the universe to create a bubble that exists at an anchored point (which can move relative to other objects), but isn't accessible unless you find the entrance.

As for other cultures in Otherworld, the harpies come to mind. There's a quite a bit about them and how they avoid interacting with the fae, choosing to live on the outskirts.

I like how much that lets artists play with the base design. CosCru anon's designs have an elaborate masquerade kind of feel to them, with the emphasis on masks and intricately detailed clothing and Formaldehyde has an Eastern/Arabian Nights look going on. I'm sure someone could probably churn out something neat with a stylized biblical take or something.

Like, Erin could be making a delivery to a demon and it's not wearing anything fancy. It'd be like answering the door while wearing a tank top and boxers and she'd just silently half-wonder where all the pomp and substance is since most make an effort before going back to not caring.

You could still have something like that. If a demon weren't making any particular effort to appear grandiose and powerful, it might look like a slob to some observers.

If they have enough magic to survive, they just come off as "slightly crazy monster people".

If they don't have enough magic, then they're murderous backstabbers who fill the classical "deal with the devil" or summoned monster mental pictures. It's like a staving wolf.

Having demons be almost normal people who put their pants on one leg at a time defeats the point of having a heavily magic focused setting. It's wasteful and unimaginative.

You're curtailing all the potential mystique and creativity of it for what is essentially a "look, they're just like us! The demon is wearing boxers and a tank top!" joke.

One of the fundamental things we've established is that they're all made of magic. That's decent justification for being a little open to interpretation to me.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there's a bit of a style to each demon's domain. The Supreme Duke's realm probably induces a jazz club vibe, compared to the Court's classical medieval theme or the Post Office's modern day look.

I can't force demons to be interesting.

Some of them are going to be like us, some of them are going to be like they're from myths and legends, some are going to look like they're from fire and brimstone hell, some are going to look like they're from pearly gates heaven, and others will just look like weird animals who might be able to talk.

Demons are a product of culture, so they're going to be heavily influenced by that.

If I try to make them tricky I just end up with something someone has already done, more than likely regarding the fae.
If I try to make them just normal people with magic and horns, then I get people like you.

There's a shit load of planes that demons live on, they probably all have different cultures and clothing and styles and everything.

A bit of that came up when the shared Amber/Violet world idea was being discussed. Anyone in the amber parts has a dreamy, soothing aspect, but anything in the violet areas has a spooky, nightmare cast. As their energy crashes together and overlaps, different things get washed in the opposing color and completely change in appearance.

And The Fire Witch's personal domain has everything made of fire on it.

The Rune Keeper doesn't do much to mess with the space surrounding his school, so I assume it's a forested area with a big impossible shape school sitting in the middle of it.

There should also be some planes that aren't being influenced by a demon "king" but still have powerful demons living there causing it to change to suit their preferences.

You can certainly force them to be uninteresting.

It's easier to explore what can be done with them by saying their appearance is largely circumstantial, whether due to where they are, who is seeing them or how much effort they're putting into how they're seen than it is to say they just have wardrobes and actual clothing they wear.

The thing with wearing another demon's colors as a sign of subservience is as a symbol of accepting their magic in exchange for submission. So it's a creature made of magic, wearing more magic. It's not quite a physical object in the same sense as human clothes. There's no reason what appears to be clothing wouldn't be as variable in appearance as the demon wearing it. Sometimes it looks like a tie or a robe, sometimes it's body painting, sometimes it's even part of their bodies like a lesser demon getting big Red horns.

Even the Courier Cloaks were explicitly made from Hank's magic.

I'm not forcing anything.

I don't really like having them appear different depending on who is viewing them since makes them less... well, less like individuals.

It works for Whisper because that's just what Whisper is, but demons should at least have some aspects that don't change no matter who is looking at them.

I imagine it's something that changes based on strength of the subject. Minor demons are victim to expectations and the tone of their settings moreso than a Lord. It wouldn't be on the same personal scale as Whisper anyway, as opposed to being more a question of culture and how you happen to be seeing the demon. A fully summoned demon would have a more solidified appearance than one seen in a vision.

That aside, it's easy to maintain certain visual elements to make sure the lords retain their individuality. That's exactly why I used Dream of the Endless as an example. No matter how you look at it, his helmet is always the same even when it's totally different.

Things from the Void are different from your standard made of magic demon.

The is the Void the same as the Nexus, or is the Nexus just something that's on the outer edges of the Void in the space between spaces with the Void being like anti-space?

The Nexus is an intersection that connects planes. The Void is an in between zone that separates them.

I think the actual Nexus is the proper thoroughfare for going between realms but only connects the demon planes. The Post Office is an artificial Nexus albeit with a more ambitious scope.

Probably something to do with the central crystal. Of course, that's the single most robust part of the golem, heavily enchanted for defensive purposes due to how important it is.

Hummingbird's wings have been drawn a few different ways, but I think the version where the middle part is see through is the most "official" take on it. I think they're more like projected energy rather than solid wings.

I think it would make sense if she were ambidextrous. Her biggest strength is that she's good at adapting to new circumstances. Plus it would fit into her whole "fight smart not hard" style. Switching hands in the middle of a fight can give you a quick advantage sometimes.

It's different from person to person, so the stimulus required to make it become active is always different, that means there's no standardized way to make it happen.
Sometimes it's something easy, sometimes it's something impossible. It favors the impossible though and that's why there aren't supers everywhere.

In the case of Harpoonist, the mad doc was looking to see if it was possible to take the random factor out of it and make him manifest a power of her choosing. We can assume environment plays a role in what power one gets when the gene activates.

Since his meta gene had already been activated, it was passed onto his daughter.
If he had more kids, we'd have more data points to see what the odds of this happening is. Passing powers on in this way could be common, or it could be less common given the way his gene was activated.

A lot of the electric powered supers got their powers when they received a big enough jolt.

The meta gene could be a one time only super adaptability trait.
The people who got shocked and got powers were the super rare variety who needed an electrical stimulus to trigger their meta gene, then, since their bodies where still charged when it happened, they developed electric based powers.

If someone who has a dormant gene that can be activated via electrical shock can have their activation delayed and then be exposed to something else when it activates, they'd develop different powers probably.
Of course, those people surviving that kind of shock could only do so because their meta gene activated then and made it so their bodies could handle it. So delaying the activation might just give you a dead person.

Things other than electricity could be the stimulus needed for other people though.

And of course there are people like Anastasia Wright's parents who both had psychic abilities and she inherited all of them from both parents.

A much smaller number than the number of characters that we have.

I get the feeling we don't talk about them because no one ever wants to include parents in a story unless they are the main characters, otherwise they just become targets to be maimed or killed so as to torment the character who has focus placed upon them.

Wells' parents are dead and his foster parents apparently don't keep track of him.

Theta's dad was some kind of super spy who taught her a bunch of tricks of the trade. I think he's also dead. No idea what happened to her mom.

Her timing is really embarrassing, to the point where cunning demons feel second-hand embarrassment about it.

Ghost would be rather average as a hero before Theta arrives in the story.

Archenemy probably hams it up constantly, but then has to cut it way back when Theta starts attacking him mid-monologue.

After fights where Theta fucks up their shows I could see Wells complaining to JD about how he didn't get to say even half of his lines that he put so much thought into writing.

Having the basic plot outline for the first part of the story is nice for keeping us on track for where the story is going, but putting the meat on the bones is just as important.

I open myself to ridicule with this, but maybe something will come of it and breath some life into the thread so it can make it through the night.
Hoping someone will do this better than I did.

Title panel:
Under the title, Audry's boobs are erasing the chalk board as she's writing on it

Panel one:
Rocker Billy is standing on top of a car singing, making some people rob a store and put the stuff in a car
"Oh yeah! Tonight I'm shopping for free!"?

Panel two:
SQ and GG show up dramatically and make a quip
SQ: "Your musical misconduct ends here you misguided miscreant!"
If you can think of a way to make this next part work without being so wordy, then do it.
GG chimes in with a "You're about to get schooled! Because... you know, you're going to need music classes. Oh, this was a terrible idea." Something along those lines, but it's not necessary to the comic and can be cut.

Panel three:
RB sees GG, starts sweating and fumbling his words, losing control of the situation. Maybe reflect her "assets" in his sunglasses to make it work for one panel.
"Y-you... I... doot doot..."

Panel four:
In a classroom Audrey is called up to the chalk board to solve a problem.
Teacher: "Audry, would you like to solve this one?" This can be changed to sound more naturally if it seems off.

Panel five:
We see a behind shot of Audry as she's walking up to the front of the classroom and the back of RB's head as she passes him.

Panel six:
Close up of RB in his seat with his mouth shut and sweating. He should have some bandages on his face to show he lost the fight from earlier.
Dressed in something more conforming. Thick nerd glasses. Hair parted down the middle. Sweater-vest.

He was only able to do it the one time since the shards that power his suit and the shards that where embedded in Wells' face were going critical at the time of the punch.

So the power from Wells' shards was absorbed, stabilizing Wells fro the time being, but over charged JD's suit which was already at it's breaking point and sent him ~2 years into the past.

Halloween is the time where the barrier between Earth and other realms is most thin. Some more influential demons could possibly affect things in the human world even if they can't fully enter it.

There's probably a strange axis of ability to mess with humans vs. desire to mess with humans meaning most of the ones that really want to are too weak to do it, and most of the ones powerful enough to don't care about it. It would probably make for some great business for the Blissful Lady, with temporary empowerment being part of her services.

I kind of see GG's adventures taking place in a transitionary period, when actual superhumans (like Billy, for example) are just beginning to emerge but haven't really started coming out of the woodwork yet. (SQ doesn't truly count in my opinion, since her powers come from her bracelets.)

He should be taking advantage of the season by selling cursed items to the unsuspecting populace.

Halloween decorations that will become real the night of.
Cursed trinkets that will turn people into whatever they're dressed up as, but badly.
A spooky sound track that seems creepy at first, but subliminally plants those cheap sound tracks into the minds of anyone who hears it like the mother of all ear worms... and them worms will come out of their ears.

He could make bank on that, cause mass mayhem, and use it as cover to get away with whatever bigger plot he's up to currently.

Since space is really, really, REALLY big, there should be countless space armadas, evil emperors, cosmic abominations, and the like. The trick is getting more than one in the same place at the same time to set up a situation with a bunch of bad guys all fighting each other for some of our space going characters to wonder into.

There are always generals left over in fallen empires who seize the remnants...

So, if you want to create Golden Girl comics I put together a bunch of stuff you can use including a high resolution logo. There are templates, measurements, .lip and .sut files for CSP and MS5. There's also as many of the fonts as I could find.

I considered putting in .psd files but I've never made a comic in Photoshop, so there's just huge PNGs that you can put panels over.

So I think that's it. If there's a need to update it later I'll get around to it.

Well no one else is doing much with the season girls design's right now.

As for Jetpack Viking, I don't think his personal life has ever been explored.
He was a fighter jet pilot before he was a super, so he could have a wife living on a base who then moved to the floating island when that became his new full time gig.

Though I feel like he's been drawn as being flirtatious with girls before, so he might be single.
Or maybe he's just been written as that at some point.
Or maybe I'm just imagining that scenario that's never come to pass where both he and Skathi happen to be at the same bar at the same time.

I think it might be trying to combine too much into one strip. Maybe have RB's crimes foiled and then his introduction to Audrey's school in a separate strip, that way both have time to breathe.

Having said that, the chalkboard gag has come up enough that I decided to ignore the fact that I have deadlines that need meeting to do this.

If I tried splitting it in two, I wouldn't be able to describe the action scenes that lead to RB's defeat (I'm terrible at describe action scenes). Someone had an idea about GG just falling on top of him in a different strip idea, but that's lost to the archives.
And if there's a follow up strip set at the school, that'd be the first time there would ever be direct continuity between GG strips. I don't know if the same set up as the last three panels would work if it were expanded.
Playing it out in my head it just keeps getting more wordy since then I think about the teachers asking him why he's all beat up, or if he just transferred in, and it just gets further from a joke from there for me.

When I thought up that script, I really just wanted to find a way to introduce RB to the story since it felt like the rest of the characters were never going to make it in with the way things were going at the time.

Also, nice pic. Glad at least something came of the idea.

That idea might serve as a better introduction for him if it shows that his voice can compel people to do what he says.

It doesn't conflict with the other strip idea which can serve to show where he stands in the story... but I still feel attachment to the other one since that's the one I came up with.

And I didn't really want to make a page for the 12 demon kings since two of them are still TBA.

Every time I see a TBA, I feel like indecisiveness becomes the status quo for that subject.

We weren't really thinking about character types when the one we currently have were created.
They all either happened or were adopted into it when it started forming.

I had an idea for one last thread where one of them would be made up of a huge ball of wings.
I suppose we could use one who is all about law, order, and that sort of thing, but in demon society all that means really is someone who maintains the planes, as in makes sure they aren't being destroyed.

Another idea suggested was for there to be a position that was in the middle of a succession crisis. I didn't really care much for the idea since I hate prolonged indecision as status quos. If it were a story that Erin were involved with and helped to resolve, then I'd be more for something like that. Though that might make her a bit too important since she was never meant to be the person who could resolve any problem.

The best solution with these things is to simply leave it ambiguous. WAS he chosen by the Christian God? He certainly thinks so. Some evidence might point to it. But there's no proof, nothing concrete, only speculation. Any "holy" characters like Halo should be coy about their origins and never explicitly confirm or deny any particular belief system. That way you can still dip into the rich Abrahamic mythology without outright stating "there is a One Above All in the /co/verse."

My take on it, anyway.

It's not like it really matters anyways. From what we've gotten the Arthur in coscru went full Big Boss and abandoned his kingship to be a simple knight upon seeing what had become to his kingdom in his years of absence.

The Christian god aspect of Arthurian legend takes a backseat largely to the more folk legend aspects introduced throughout the years.

By the time we get to see him the man is a forgotten legend training the souls of long dead soldiers and curious fairies on the beaches of Avalon.
