Marvel is dominating sales with Star Wars, so why doesn't DC put put out comics of Warner Bros films like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?

Because they don't have the rights. Rowling is too careful to allow other writers in her universe, and after the Hobbit movies the Tolkein estate will never let anyone do anything with LotR again.

A Harry Potter or LotR comic would inspire backlash because Rowling/Tolkien isn't writing. For them, it would be fanfiction.

Since Disney owns Star Wars they can basically do whatever they want with the franchise.

Warner Bros. doesn't own those franchises, they license them and have restrictions for what they're allowed to make with them.

Nobody holds a candle to Star Wars. The amount of money that franchise has made is staggering.

I am wondering how the success of the Star Wars comics will impact Marvel. I'm not saying that the superhero comics will do bad because of Star Wars but what's the stop Disney from looking at the two and saying "hey, stop writing superheroes and write more star wars"?

Does that figure in inflation? Or sales for all the merchandise and video releases? A film can make more money than just at the box office.

Force Awakens is most likely going to break records and I'd bet it'll top all MCU films. Last time I checked the trailer had 25million views and that was just a couple days after it dropped.

If we include inflation James Bond is by far the most financially successful film series in history. Harry Potter is directly under SW when it comes to film-by-film success, and we all know that sold quite a few merchandise products. It also may even be getting a sequel. Star Wars is not as untouchable as you seem to think.

She'll refuse. She does not wish to 'dilute' Potter.

The only reason the video games exist is because of a legal backdoor, that she was not made aware of, where the games are adaptations of the films, not the books.

She was pissed about that.

Christopher Tolkien is an old man who got really pissed because Hollywood accounting will say the LotR films didn't make any money, of which he is owed royalties.

I reallly don't think that the Silmarillion would ever work in a movie format. So much of it is "high level" in the sense that it is big picture more than individual stories. Each chapter could be its own movie/episode/whatever, but they wouldn't work well as one expanded narrative. The whole LotR and Hobbit make up one chapter at the end of the book for example.
