This isn't really prophetic, that's just the way it was. Even when The Simpsons "were still good" they were running it into the ground with merchandise, advertising, and placement. To the agreement of all involved. And I say more power to them. I mean I'm still not gonna watch any Simpson episode made after 2000, but apparently some people do.

Yeah, I stopped buying into "zombie Simpsons" when I realized they had Michael Jackson in the second season, I still hold that the writing's been awful for nearly a couple decades now.

This is why I can't really hate the Simpsons. I dislike the quality of the later seasons, but at heart this is what the characters would want. They (the characters themselves) would want money, and this thing prints it by the truckload.

It's like how I support that notion about a feminist icon being put on money, but only if it's on the 20 dollar bill because Jackson hated the federal banks anyway. You know what I'm saying?

Your Jackson analogy doesn't quite fit because he seriously was anti-Federal banks so putting him on Federal Bills Hamilton was the founder of the Federal Bank. Heh
It's like the whole Objectivists loving Rorschach or Anarchists loving Tyler Durden. Sure they support those modes of thinking but they're negative portrayals of those extremes. Making them a mascot of those misses the point like the Simpsons becoming sell out Zombies is ironic.
