So, I think it's been a considerable amount of time since Season 2 aired for us to possibly have a discussion about it.

I was lurking here when the show was airing, but it ran at around 4am on a Sunday for me so I could never really get live reactions and the threads would be all out of discussion by the time I got to them.

I guess I'll start of with a question. What did you guys think of season 2? Better or worse than 1?

I liked it better than Season 2, personally but I think Season 1 has more re-watch-ability.

I wasn't here at all for the watching of Season 1 or 2 so I have no clue what anyone thinks in general, but I personally didn't like the Season 2 finale.

Seriously how is that episode so bad? Did they have to make a sacrifice of having one absolutely terrible episode so the season could be great?

Yeah, the TV stuff was pretty mediocre and certainly not as funny as its predecessor, but the fucking B plot was hilarious to me. I guess the concept was better than the execution, like Jerry getting shot and that ending was lazy but hell it was just fun to me.

Certainly not 7/8/9/10 level but it wasn't hot garbage.

At least to me it wasn't. I'd put it on Schwifty levels.

The episode as a whole was just painfully unfunny to me. I chuckled twice, maybe. It just makes me uncomfortable when shows try to repeat a past success, but are also like "Haha we're meta we know sequels suck!" and fall flat on their face.

Yes, they're being meta and that can be cringey but to me it was like "Yo we're just dicking around, try and have fun with us".

But I get why you find it somewhat uncomfortable.

Season 2 was ultimately kind of disappointing for me. It's not terrible or even bad at all, I even liked episodes like Get Schwifty. But in the end it just wasn't as good as season 1. I think that it's at least partially my fault I feel this way, since I was so hyped for season 2 going into it. Season 1 made it look like Rick and Morty was going to be a 10/10 show that everyone should see, but season 2 proved that it's just a 8/10 show to me.

Gravity Falls and Steven Universe are both still better shows to my mind, though Rick and Morty currently takes the 3rd place for currently airing cartoons.

I found it nice that Bird Person was just happily living with Tammy and was that guy that would give us insight on Rick's past every now and then while he fucked his hot human girlfriend.

I didn't really give a rats ass about Tammy, but I didn't hate her. And then this shit happens and now I feel betrayed.

But at the same time I'm a sucker for tragic endings, so it was fun to have the emotional roller-coaster that was that 9 inch nails ending.

Get Shwifty doesn't make me mad because it's just an episode I don't find particularly funny. Interdimensional Cable 2 does tick me off a bit because of the meta-ness and being a terrible sequel that shouldn't have happened.

As far as interdimensional cable 2 goes, I didn't dislike it at all, but going back to that well does seem like kind of a waste of an episode in such a small order per season. If the season had been longer I wouldn't have any issue with it at all.

The season I didn't like the episode is because I don't find the commercials particularly funny at all (I get it they're improving and then they animate it, it's just not very humorous most of the time) and because the whole "let's shit all over Jerry" thing isn't very funny either. The episode just comes across as awkward as fuck.

I like more family stuff, but I'd prefer it to be utilized for world/past building as oppose to lazy plot lines like "Let's shit on Jerry" or "OUR MARRIAGE SUCKS".

Jerry turned from well meaning doofus to irredeemable limp writsted retard
Morty became a psychopath over night
Summer became better though, I will give them that

I think Jerry and Beth rubbed me the wrong way the most, maybe because of all of the OUR MARRIAGE subplots that played out the same way every time. Which I admit, is how actual troubled marriages work, with people thinking they're fixed and in love again but fall back into old ways soon after, but in a TV show with some sort of continuity and development, it feels off.
Also the ham fisted EMOTIONAL TIME TIME FOR A SONG parts that tried to remake what made Rick Potion great by using superficial aspects of it
I still loved it, but its because I love it that I nitpick it
Also I really REALLY want them to have rick suddenly be free in the next season and make a joke about how awesome the breakout was but completely ignore it.

To be honest, it seems entirely plausible they will do something like that.

The show dips they're toe into the shallow end of deep plots and lore but then back out as soon as they realise they're almost submerged.

I bet they spend a good month or two planning season 3 episode 1 and give up and do something retarded like that.
