J-PR and RWBY sat in the cafeteria eating dinner. This was the fourth month in a row that Nora had missed this particular day of class. The girl didn't even show up to any meals today, or last few months. Everyone wondered where she was, though no one wanted to ask the one person who probably knew.
Finally, the leader of the missing girl's team spoke up. "Hey, Ren?"
The stoic man glanced up from his plate, "Yes, Jaune?"
All eyes were on the pair now. "You wouldn't happen to know where Nora is, do you? She disappeared this day the couple last months too. Is everything, ya know, alright?"
Ren shrugs. "She's always had "things" to do on this day. I didn't feel the need to ask, as she'd always be fine the next day."
"O-oh. Well, if you're not worried, then I guess we don't need to.."

From what I can gather, there's three different colored glyphs that she's used so far that I can remember
Black = some kind of telekinesis or propulsion thing
Yellow = time manipulation
White = mostly used as a platform when she's jumping or on uneven ground, but can apparently do stuff with ice too

And not unlike Yang she seems to have an undefined limit on her power

What is everyone's favourite pairing for RWBY if you have one?

I want Blake to be a cool-but-distant friend who occasionally comes over to hang out with my group at my apartment, but one day I'm the only one there cos everyone had to bail but Blake still turns up anyways not knowing this. Then we're just sat in silence and I'm finding it awkward but she seems totally content if a little bored. In an attempt to break the silence I mention the first thing that comes to my head, which is that my mom keeps sending me tons of tuna even though she should know that I hate fish and no one will take it off me. To my surprise this causes Blake to immediately perk up and ask me if she could have some. I hesitantly tell her okay, and that she should follow me into the backroom. The backroom itself isn't really a room at all, more of a large closet which connects the living room and the bathroom where I keep all the things I can't think of where else to put... including a huge pile of tuna tins. I enter the room first and make myself remember to be careful because if I let go of the door, it'll slam shut and jam which'll mean it'll only be openable from the other side... but as soon as Blake sees the pile she rushes in, knocking me away from the door and causing exactly what I just thought about to happen. After silently fuming for a few moments, I compose myself and turn round to explain the situation we now find ourselves in to her. She's already picked up about 12 tins and is cradling them like a baby as I'm doing this. It's then that I realise just how dire our situation is... the last time this happened was before I met Blkake, just after I'd moved in and while my family was here and able to get me out. But now it's just the two of us, and our other friends won't be comig here until tomorrow. Which means we're stuck in here for almost a full 24 hours.

I'd say it's more of a matter of the kind of person Jaune is. He's a bit of a doof, his knowledge of Hunters probably stems entirely from the cool stories where they do sweet stuff and save the day and are really awesome heroes, while glossing over the actual minutia and details of how they do awesome shit. It's not the information isn't available, it's just that Jaune isn't the kind to go looking for it.

Oum didn't have a plan. If he did, he would've shown it by now. It's been two seasons, and all we have is a very, VERY vague setup without even establishing any rules, while a hyped change to status quo was shut down within half an episode with literally no impact on anything but further vague setup. Nobody has managed to fully reveal their backstory besides Blake, and every single presumable authority figure and antagonist has done nothing but talk in such vague language you'd think they were the Monitors from Countdown to Final Crisis. For Christ's sake, Oum was regularly prowling the fan wiki and dumping a bunch of vague headcanon. That is not the work of a sane man, that's the work of an overprotective author, just like JK Rowling's acted since Order of the Phoenix. It's forcing the creator's opinion down our throats without room for genuine speculation, and it's a complete violation of the basic storytelling rule of "show, don't tell". And yes, it is a bad thing to rely on fans for ideas. It ruins any chance of surprise and turns the whole story into a big clump of random disconnected pandering fanservice, while at the same time means the writers are literally getting paid to steal ideas rather than make their own.

If you want to watch shonen anime with good character design, watch FMA:B. If you want to watch moe, watch K-on. If you want to watch colorful shapes punch each other, watch Power Rangers. If you want to watch this kind of animation, watch Storm Hawks. And if you just want to see stupid shit on a grand scale with no rhyme or reason, join a suicide cult revolving around Sword Art Online.

Imagine the stories as being like the trailers from our perspective. Just a bunch of cool shit happening. We didn't know what Aura was, we didn't think there was some kinda force there. Sure, something supernatural was going on but we were perfectly willing to attribute that to "Dust" until we knew better. It's only after having Aura, and later Semblance, explicitly explained to us that it all suddenly fits in and makes sense.

In this respect, Jaune is like the audience.

At first Blake seems nearly as upset by this as me... but then suddenly cheers up. I bitterly ask why. She explains that we have everything we need to get by; we still have acces to the bathroom, which gives us a wall for privacy, a shower, a toilet... and of course, tons of tuna to eat! I explain that I REALLY hate fish, to the point that I'll avoid eating it under any circumstances, I'd just eaten before she arrived, and that I'm sure I can survive just one day without food... but hey, that just means more for her, right? She nods happily. The first 10 hours pass without any unexpected incidents. She (literally) claws into several tins for her dinner. The strong smell of tuna in such an enclosed space almost makes me vomit, and while she's enjoying her current meal I'm bent over the toilet trying not to hack up the last meal I had. After she's finished, she apologises and washes the insides of the depleted tins in the bathroom sink in an attempt to reduce the lingering stench. I have some old books stored here that I was planning to sell or give to a charity store, mostly teen-orientated adventure or romance novels that I had lost interest in as I grew older, but Blake seems very interested in them now. I'm impressed by the speed with which she reads, finishing books which took me weeks to read as a kid in less than an hour, and outright surprised by her preference of romance over adventure. I'd always been a sensitive guy who was into romantic and other "girly" things, but I'd always considered her to be a thorough action girl. To see her blush as she tentatively reaches out for the story of two ninjas in love is quite a shock. We take it in turns in the shower, shedding our previously worn clothes for some of my old (but clean) ones that I was gonna give the same treatment as the books. They're tight on me, but snuggly fit her smaller frame. Although I can't help but be awed and puzzled by her choice of attire.

Ruby couldn't say anything.

It was then that Cinder stepped out of the bullhead, gently placing her hand on Jaune's shaking shoulder. It was time to leave.

Jaune turned his back on Ruby and waited. Hoped. After another second of nothing, he sighed and jumped aboard. As they took off, Cinder looked over to the boy sitting beside her, wrapped her arms around him tightly, and didn't let go.

Nah I'd love to have world-building in the show, but i'm resigned to the fact the the writers aren't good at narrative fiction. Nor did they give them selves rules to follow so that the world made sense. In the end Rwby will never be as good as it could be so i'll try and enjoy what I can.

Scythes aren't exactly hereditary, so not exactly a factor.

The way I see it, we'll know if there's something going on there because they'll over-foreshadow weeks in advance. If Ruby says something along the longs of Qrow "Being like a father to me", that should be a sign. M&K are incapable of being subtle with their plot twists.

With that, James Ironwood fixed his jacket and turned his back on his old friend. He made it to the door before Ozpin spoke again.

"You'll never get another opportunity like this again, James. The finding, the facilities. Beacon is the greatest school in Vale. If I spread the word, no one would take you. You have nowhere else to go."

Ironwood tiled his head, giving the thought some consideration."

"What's that saying you're so fond of, Oz? The one from Vacuo?"

"James, don't-"

"Oh yeah. Blackjack and Hookers."

With that, he closed the door behind him.

Not exactly sure what you're getting at, but the writers behind RWBY are pretty terrible. The thing is that Monty was the idea guy. He had a slew of ideas and a general concept of where he wanted those ideas to go and end up. But the hardest part about that is filling in the middle part I know this, because that's always been my challenge
Miles and Kerry suck at writing that middle part, partially because it's not their vision, so there's a lot lost in translation, but mostly because they're just not good at writing a good story.

Well, the first three episodes are a fine enough template to work off of, minus the part where we're told Ozpin's voice is off.

The four main characters meet each other in a high school for training Power Rangers. "Dust" is a substance used as an all-purpose phlebotinum for magic and energy, and is how the fancy weapons and magic spells work.

Ditch the Aura crap. The Suspension of Disbelief can easily justify everyone's acrobatic abilities. HP bars are something that should only exist in video games, and being used in other settings only makes it a lazy shorthand for "Wow, this guy's really hurt!" when stuff like that should be demonstrated by voice acting and visual wear and tear. The Semblance stuff can stay, but only if they're properly demonstrated and given a decent balance for utility, and should NEVER be revealed as a deus ex machina or a substitute for magic. The strongest they should get needs to fall around the civilian powers from Disney's run on Power Rangers.

Do not add a new character to shake up the setting unless there is a solid, established status quo which their existence is capable of changing up. For example, the kemonomimi need solid establishment for their existence. They can be a race of peoples from another city/nation away from the main setting, and that the stigma here is that most of them work for criminal groups. The whole activism thing is pointless because we never see any prejudice towards them.

If you're going to have characters in a high school, have them do things in or around that high school, only sending them away from it in special circumstances to set up plot points or self-contained subplots.

I have more ideas, but this should be enough for this post.

Besides the the single instance of them changing RWBY's release date from Thursday for everyone to Saturday for sponsors/Sunday for public, all they've done is give sponsors a slightly early access to their content. The public releases have all been left alone except for the Podcast, in which it was made available to the public 5 days sooner than it use to be.
It's far from fan-unfriendly. They've just given a little more incentive to the fans that choose to support them through sponsorship.

We don't NEED to see them training, but we do need establishment for why characters have these fighting skills and weaponry. That's what character focus episodes and flashbacks are for.

So far, all we know who has those kinds of establishments are Ruby (mentored by her uncle who raised her), Blake (anti-establishment terrorist), Penny (robot superweapon) and Jaune (hand-me-downs, though we still don't know how he managed to apply for Beacon).
