>Jem and the Holograms debuted on 2,413 theaters yesterday and everything we feared about the film came true. The Universal/Comcast Corp. release is relatively mediocre and bears little resemblance to the popular cartoon that inspired it. Like Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall or The Expendables 3, this very loose adaptation of the 1980′s cartoon seemed explicitly designed to outrage the very fans who otherwise would have shown up in costume last night. The $5 million Blumhouse production had minimal marketing and very little awareness save for the fans who all-but-boycotted the film for being the least faithful adaptation of a kid property since, I dunno, Inspector Gadget.
