Jesus. It's like everyone for the past 20-30 years slept through English and has the reading comprehension of a potato. Grayson frequently requires slightly more attention paid to details than your average funnybook, but not by fukken much.

All the goddamn idiots I've had to explain Omega Men to, because they don't understand why Kyle isn't going Jesus and saving everyone.

I think the people who are confused by this are confused because he's been a sad prisoner the whole time so far and nothing in the book has involved him being stronger and more Jesus-y and more special than anybody else, they don't want him to actually have to struggle with his actions or what's going on

Thought captions are unnecessary and frequently break immersion. I prefer omniscient third-person narrators (or that shit Robinson likes to do with journal entries), and I know that makes me old-school, but properly-expressive art, structure, and dialogue eliminate the need to be in a character's head 24/7.

That's still similar to the Grayson complaints though. There have been a lot of complaints that Dick is portrayed as "incompetent" and never accomplishes anything, because it's not a straightforward Dick defeats villain of the arc and moves on deal.

I don't think thought captains are bad in principle, and they can be used well as a device but it seems to be a common problem these days to see them misused as a clutch by bad writers. See Lobdell's anything for the worst of that.

No thought captions, Dick not being fully in control of himself, no villain of an arc kind of book, not being Nightwing in general, supporting cast that isn't the batfamily, etc

Dick has a long history of playing the victim, though. He jobs out to the main villain in basically every event he's in so Batman (or whoever else) can look all the more impressive for taking the guy down, and he's had very few decisive wins against any of his major villains over his 75 year history.

I can appreciate the story they're trying to tell, but it'd still be nice to watch Dick actually knock one out of the park for once.

Well they either want to seem more moral than those that like Grayson, or thy genuinely don't get why some people would be okay with horrible, odd people being in the story.
I mean its only 13 issues in and we've seen what Netz wants. I'm 99% sure Kathy is going to kill her at some point but who knows if she'll stay dead-dead.

It also ocurred to me how diverse (read: largely non white male) the cast in this book is without hitting you over the head about how ~progressive~ it is.

Like the only male characters save Dick (who is explicitly part Romani) are an Afghani Muslim James Bond, and a white guy who's the villain.

Just imagine: Dick finally acknowledges the flirting and asks if Middy wants to go out sometime. Middy's surprised, a bit skeptical since he knew Grayson was straight. He's lonely though. He'll never admit it but he's lonely as hell and the thought of some company from a charming handsome man makes him genuinely smile for the first time in a while (when no one else is looking). He gets dressed up, plans a nice evening; he's gonna wine and dine this circus boy like a gentleman. He arrives early for the date, counting down the minutes until he can finally, finally, get some respite from his loneliness. Dick is late, by a few minutes, but Middy is willing to wait. The minutes start piling up and he wonders if something happened, but he knows Grayson is capable enough to handle himself. When the candle has burned low he's finally realized that Dick isn't coming and snuffs out the flame between a finger and thumb.

Then he sees Dick the next day, as if nothing happened. Middy tries to conceal his hurt, sneers and spits sarcasm while Dick smiles and patronizes him. "What are you talking about? I'm not sure what you mean." Then he stops the denial and opens the floodgates. "Why the hell would I ever want to go out with you? Does ANYone like you? At all? You know your friends are all just pretending right? I wouldn't find you interesting in 52 other realities."

Middy frowns and pushes the humiliation and bile down and Dick smiles and berates.

The futures end grayson story it's just another story of how well trained this guys are that can design a plan for any major contingency,

Story goes as follows: grayson gets mad and kill some president from a 6th world country because he lied to grayson and made him kill civilians, then he is sentenced to dead and gets hung on a rope, moments before falling to his demise there are flashback since his time as robin where he learn to use some kind of acid and then the rest are flashbacks of his adventures and his time as grayson with spiral where then it's revealed he made a bet with his partner and taught her how to use the acid to cut a rope withing 5 minutes or something. So if you analyze all the story it's implied his partner used the acid on the rope so grayson hung for a little and then got away alive, faking his dead twice in a lifetime. the greatness of the story is that is told in chunks.

If you're okay with Dick's attractiveness being mentioned by other characters and such, then that means you're okay with harassment.

Even though Dick isn't aware of people talking about him the majority of the time, doesn't like it when he is aware of it (hello preview), and condoning it in fiction doesn't mean you condone it in real life, especially since horrible people do exist and can further the narrative if done well.
Netz being creepy works cause she's supposed to be creepy, other characters are aware of it, and she's basically the bad guy of this arc and the last arc.

Well the last time they whined, it was like four issues ago, so the writers would've changed things by now. And if they listened to them this time, it would affect anything until about issue 15 or 16.
And eventually Dick's gonna gain more power there, but it's an uphill climb. They'll have to change it from "agent way low down in rank" to something else eventually. Pic related

A lot of the inflection comes off as flat as hell when most actors attempt it, if not a little stiff and drunk-sounding. Yeah it is kinda funny to see them worship Wolfman and Dixon so much. I mean Wolfman did that whole Terra and Slade ordeal and created Starfire for sexual purposes in mind. And Dixon is one of the most conservative writers there and it showed sometimes. But NTT seems to be loved more for "Dick's leadership skills" even though he's shit on teams after that, like Judd Winick writing him. And Dixon is basically the only Nightwing shit that gets recommended. So not a whole lot to base their views of Dick off of.
And it's so funny seeing stuff from Grayson's Nightwing run have so many reblogs since she gets shat on so much there. Nobody bothers reading her run and assumes the rape is the only thing she did. Dick being a hyperactive manchild comes almost exclusively from her, but it's such a common fandom thing.

It's because there's not many people to ship him with since he's only been in GL books and was in JLA for like five pages where he didn't talk to anybody

I want him to be friends with Hal though, Hal needs new friends too and they were both mechanics and Baz's original ring was a weird fusion of Hal and Sinestro's rings so they have a kind of weird connection

Only one time in the last 30 years has Dick Grayson given a truly threatening villain a proper beat-down. And even then, it was framed as a loss.

Knightfall - Shiva beats Dick's ass in one panel, then he gets btfo by AzBats
Prodigal - Dick fumbles his way into a win against Two-Face
Brotherhood of the Fist - Dick jobs out to that whatever monkey guy so Connor Hawke can look awesome taking dude down.
Cataclysm - Dick does't do shit
NML - Dick doesn't do shit again.
Last Laugh - Dick beats the Joker to death with his bare hands only to get shamed by it and spiral into a depression over it.
Bruce Wayne Murderer: - Dick gets his ass beat by Batman. Also maybe David Cain too, I don't remember.
Early Grayson run - Dick gets shot by Deathstroke. Cassandra has to do the fighting for him.
Mid Grayson run - Dick gets the run-around from Blockbuster. Tarantula has to kill Rolly for him. Also, rape.
War Games - Doesn't do shit.
Late Grayson run - Dick lets Bludhaven get bombed. Batman has to come save him.
Infinite Crisis - Dick fails to rally the troops. Batman takes down Deathstroke for Bludhaven on Dick's behalf. Dick leads Superboy to his death. Dick gets shot by Alex Luthor,
Batman RIP - Gets kidnapped, gets free, shows up to help Bruce. Probably the most self-sufficient the boy hostage has ever been.
Batman and Robin - Dick gets shot by Simon Hurt, Batman has to come back through time to save him
Black Mirror - Dick gets played by Sonia Zucco, does some detecting, and the climax is all about Jim and Jim Jr.
Batman Inc. - Dick gets KO'd by the Heretic and lets Damian die. He comes back to beat on the guy a bit later. Mostly Dick doesn't do shit.
Forever Evil - An entire fucking event centered around Dick Grayson, Professional Hostage.

Are there any stories out there where Dick doesn't need saving? Any stories where he's not playing second fiddle, even in the books where he's supposedly the star?
