didn't both of those shitty movies a few years ago flop hard? why would anyone think that the annoying high pitched singing and whole talking chipmunks thing would return any revenue after 1985? it was ment to be short lived oddity of a bygone era, but companies would rather invest in something that can guarantee a crowd from pure nostalgia than risk making something original. And when you have no talent, forming your bullshit around a household name gets you some viewers.

If it got a sequel that means the first film was a success financially. I don't know how you assumed the first Alvin and first Smurfs were flops when they had theatrical sequels.

Now Smurfs 2 didn't meet Sony's expectations so they're rebooting it.
