Why would a Dragon Forbid eating watermelon in a world of Watermelon?

Wouldn't the people living there be made of Watermelon as well and thus not necessarily be interested in eating Watermelon?

Or would this be like a "planet of the corn" or "Finn's pillow world" where the watermelon thing is only on a molecular and aesthetic level and there's different sorts of Watermelon?

As we can see the Watermelon dragon is no stranger to aggression and combat.
This, plus the sign, makes me think the Watermelon dimension has had a number of intruders, they had to deal with outsiders trying to eat their watermelon before.

The magical door might appear anywhere after all. And it probably has.

This story can easily be dismissed as a product of casual 40's racism, mind you

Yet, on several existential and psychological levels, this story is rather though-provoking.

This almost feels like a parody, but I know that it's not. I think my mind is just trying to refuse that this existed and was acceptable in society at some point.

See, I on the other hand, have seen enough of these things to know that it was oly tring to parody Black people, not satirize stereotypes. I had to get a little ways into it to be sure that this actually was that, and not a dated attempt to actually give Black people a cartoon like "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs" was.

This problem is compounded by the effects of racial immunity. Just as Europeans built an immunity to smallpox that wiped out much of the native American population, African-American's have a much higher tolerance for watermelon than the other races. So is fourteen pieces safe fur the average white American? Or even the average African-American, seeing as how the boy here is still young and may not yet have built up a full resistance?

>From 1946 to 1951, Eisenberg and Joseph Barbera were partners in Dearfield Publishing, a comic book company with titles such as "Red" Rabbit Comics, Foxy Fagan, and Junie Prom.
This is from Red Rabbit Comics #2 and there are six other Pancakes stories in that series...
