What is the deal with child/teenage sidekicks? How come the adult heroes aren't violently opposed to the idea of some inexperienced youth doing all these incredibly dangerous tasks?

Aside from that one Flash page, does anyone ever draw attention to how dangerous and stupid it is to let children run around fighting supervillains?
