What were /co/'s thoughts when season 3 first aired? Did it start off strong but fall apart near the end?

Whats the best season 3 episode?

It was on hiatus for a year and a half after hell of season 2 cliffhanger and when it after several delays FINALLY airs -- it's some filler tier stuff

First episodes it was like they completely let the air out of the "you only got nine months" urgency feeling they've been building for two seasons now. Kids were doing the most random shit

After Black Sun episode it became probably even a bigger mess.

YET ANOTHER hiatus for a year.

Nick prolonged it to so much DVD with several unaired episodes came out because airings on TV: episodes 11 and boiling rock two-parter.

And then there was a FINALE novelization also came out during that time. So you could but that shitty book, and spoiler that shit up for yourself and others.

Nick dragged it's ass, but merch shedule can't wait, which lead to ridiculous situation.

And then they decided to burn the rest of the series during one week including finale.

Shitty stuff.

So much went wrong with the airing itself, it's almost incredible that it finished at all.

When watched in its entirety, Book 3 is very good. But with the huge gaps in air dates for the last several sections, at the time it was a gigantic mess.

Seconding this
When whatched as a whole, Book 3 is a very good season; it's not Earth, but at least as good as Water.

Problem is that, after such a LONG wait after Season 2, the FIRST thing we're greeted by once they reach the Fire Nation if just a bunch of filler episodes! Not BAD filler episodes for the most part, mind you, but it's unerving that the plot for the first half is basically: Gaang fucks around in the Fire Nation while waiting for the Day of the Black Sun.
Wish book 2, it really felt like they were getting closer to their goal with each epsiode; in Book 3, I was just hoping the next episode would have FINALLY been the invasion

The second half of the season is definitelly stronger, I particularly liked the Boiling Rocks miniarc.

It's better than Water, but not due to its own writing. It's better because Water established the characters for Fire, so Fire had an easier time with the episodes.
