Lion King 3 or Lion King 1/2, as it's called in some countries, tells us how Timon and Pumba met each others, how they developed the Hakuna Matata way of life and such silly things, it's mostly a backstory to the first movie. It's not considered canon since some of the scenes are way too silly: in one all the animals bow down to the birth of Simba because Pumba farted.

After the first movie, Disney hired some guys to write some stories set after the end of TLK. These guys thought that the cub at the end of the movie was a male, and they named him Kopa.
Years later, Disney heavily disregarded all that and started producing the second movie, in which the cub was a female named Kiara.
And now we have this show, apparently set during the second movie itself, that show another cub, this Kion, which looks around Kiara's age.
