I really get the feeling John K. doesn't know shit about The Simpsons. Watching the opener feels like he wanted to do this halloween short, and used his invitation to do a couch gag to borrow someone else's budget to make it. Other than a slight resemblance to some Simpsons characters and the fact it ends at the couch(which I'm sure were requirements), it doesn't really doesn't resemble a Simpsons opener at all. Simpsons openers are usually chocked full of references and jokes to the guest director's work and/or to the show itself, and often follow the scene formula of the default opener. It's okay for guest directors to deviate from that to shake things up, but this one is just too weird and it makes it feel pointless.
