It's Crumb so it's worth a look.
Chester Brown also did gospel adaptations in Yummy Fur and Underwater and he has a book coming out that's also about bible stories.

Hey OP, I've read it and it's really cool. Crumb didn't exaggerate or poke fun at it at all. He just illustrated the book of genesis as it is. Its really cool if you have an interest in that sort of thing. Also, it is some of crumbs best realistic drawings. He really wanted everything to be anatomically correct, as opposed to cartoony. If you're an r crumb fan, or into mythology and religion, it the book for you.

Cerebus The Aardvark.

It's an epic fantasy(6000 pages and 16 graphic novels) that deals with historical, mythological and religious parallels of our own world. Cerebus becomes the Pope, then goes to heaven and meets his version of God.

I have it- it's good.

His art's never been better, really lovingly crafted. He also apparently tried to research the bible as best he could to deliver the most accurate depiction.

The primal, violent way he depicts events is really astute. I wasn't too well versed in the text, but it's a strange, gruesome read. There are spans of it where it's a little confusing as it goes through so many names and families like "Horace begets Jeremiah who begets Ishmael and Ishmael has a brother Frank who begets a daughter Eliza who begets..." etc.

But all in all it's a really interesting read. Especially the greatest hits like Noah and stuff.

Tezuka did a couple off the top of my head:

Phoenix : Not specifically about religion, but it is one of the major story triggers across the books. One of the major themes deals with history of expansion of Buddhism through Japan, its effects as it displaced local Shinto religions.

Buddha : About the big guy. Haven't read this one tho

Also Chester Brown did a comic about Louis Riel which was pretty cool.
Larry Gonnick's Cartoon History of the Universe/Modern World series is pretty good, although it's mostly just an illustrated history textbook.
