Why'd they bother bringing Barbara back as Batgirl to just turn her into a less cool version of Steph?

And then why did they bring Spoiler back, after that? What even is her deal now? Is she going to be the cranky brainiac now that Barbara is the heroine in a romance comic?

They fucked up big time by needlessly dumping continuity while at the same time trying to keep enough that long term fans stuck around.

Long term fans were understandably upset.

New fans didn't stick around.

Now they're trying to bring things back in to make it more like before without resetting anything.

If I could flip a switch to bring things back to how they were pre-52 but keep cool things like the court of owls I would.

The women got it the worst. Barbara was unrecognizably awful until they turned her into stephanie. Steph and cass were dead and instead of just having them show up one day and be like 'hey guys watsup' we have to tediously attempt to creep back through all that character development and in all likelihood never get back to where they were.

But how do you explain the post-reboot steady 50% Batman sales boost, and the nearly 80% Justice League sales boost?

Not to mention the fact that more people are actually reading Superman comics - historically the shittiest-selling of the main two DC franchises - this time around.

Batman comics were amazing at that time, but not the batman title itself. I believe tony daniel was still writing it and it was the worst batman book at the time. He swapped to the detective book on relaunch and people rightfully dropped that book over the months after new 52 started.

The batman title in the new 52 is so successful because it started with exposure to a lot of people and it has a wide appeal with its melodrama/excellent art/hype/marketing. Snyder has consistently delivered snyder comics and people apparently like that.

Post-crisis superman was 'republican dad superman' horseshit and was generally pretty terrible.

New 52 superman is a major improvement and much closer to his golden/silver age original version.

That was majorly improved in the new 52 with a hotshot artist/writer combo put on the books.

And yeah, people are going to buy geoff johns comics. Even if he can do silly things occasionally he's still one of if not the most important writers in the DCU to follow if you're interested in being informed.

When I say I wish I could flip and switch and go back to the old continuity, that's mainly for batman.

Superman and Wonder woman improved big time by actually having good writers and artists reboot them. Superman is back after being shit on in the 90's and 2000's. Azz wonder woman is the only run from her I've loved. Yes, I've liked wonder woman runs. But that one is my favorite.

Everyone else was needlessly hurt by the reboot.
