To be fair, they kinda have a point. I think half the reason that you've seen a lot of perversion retreat out of pop culture is because now if you wanna look at naked chicks, the internet is your first stop. Who buys an issue of Vampirella or Playboy when you can go onto any kind of image search and get basically the same experience?

The only people who are negatively impacted this are the kinds of intense weirdos who are more aroused by teasing than the actual good stuff.

You can have titillation in a comic without having the primary costume of the lead be a very impractical bathing suit

I have to say, there's so many cheesecake characters it's always a good thing when they try to do something else with them, but sometimes it feels like this is used as an excuse for sloppy redesigns. Utilitarian costume, grippy boots, a few pouches and there ya go.

Much of heavy armor was impractical. You had Greeks, Celts, and Romans wearing practically nothing and in some cases going nude into combat.

Women fought in wars alongside men in various cultures at various points, it just wasn't common because of societal norms.

It was pretty common in 'barbarian' cultures because of their migratory nature. The stigma came from the Greek and later Roman cultures. There are plenty of female warriors in Celtic, Nordic and the Steppe cultures. Not sure about the Germanic tribes though, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I have a lot of Vampirella comics. They are usually meh at best. Some good stories, but overall? It's been mediocre. I like reading about female leads, I like scantily clad girls.

They put Vampirella in pants a few years ago. Nobody cared. Nobody bought it either. So they went back to her sling costume.

Now they are targeting a female audience. I don't see them buying this either. It's not like they sell much Vampirella / Red Sonja / Dejah Thoris comics anyway, and the art tends to be average to shit. Better than Zenescope tier, but that's bottom of the barrel.

I'll keep getting Vampirella and the rest unless it suddenly becomes like Batgirl.

I don't mind the redesign, I love the old costume as well. I'm okay with the new direction it takes as long as they don't demonize the old costume and cry "it was so old and sexist and hurtful to women". As the writer and artist can understand that and still write the stories with fun action and fighting, with a healthy dose of sexy, I won't mind it. If they go full SJW pandering and never allow vampirella to be sexy, then I'm going to have a problem with it.

I will read it, but not buy it. If I do enjoy it, then the collected trade is where I will buy it. I loved the dawn-vampirella crossover, and I've read a good portion of her classic stories, so I feel like I have a good grasp of what I want to see in this reboot.

3/4 of Vampirella's fanbase have been so for at least ten years, many have been around since the 70's. There's an older man who goes to the same shop as me who adores Vampirella and the period she was created in, I haven't seen him for a while but I can't imagine he's happy about this.
