He was named manager of the Waffletown Syrups, and it turns out that Waffletown was less than a mile away from the summer camp Chuck was staying at (since he couldn't find a summer job), so he went to a game and caught a foul ball.
Joe hit Chuck in the head when he threw the ball back, and a mean kid tried to steal it, until Snoopy (dressed as the WWI flying ace) bit the kid, got the ball back and rescued Chuck.
No idea how Snoopy knew to fly to Waffletown or that Chuck would be in trouble.
This took place from mid June to mid July, 1975.
