Imperialism REQUIRES a certain level of multiculturalism in order to last any time at all without pissing off all of your satraps and neighbors. Instead their ideology instilled a level of separation and cultural inflexibility.
You want to have a nation of only one culture? Sure, okay, back in that day most people wouldn't have batted an eye, why not, it makes sense for security and national wholeness. But when your nation expresses such an ideology and THEN starts to rapidly absorb all the neighbor states into it's own territory?
Doesn't take a degree in mathematics to realize that "no other cultures within their boarders' + 'rapidly expanding boarders' =" Their culture is literally going to devour all of us."
