Daily thread where an anon bitches about how they hate the new Ms. Marvel costume even though they don't buy the comics its in.

You should just start Ms. Marvel from the beginning. It's the same creative team, and her first 18 issues are really good.

For Captain Marvel, yeah, the ANAD relaunch would be the time to check her out. Her last few runs have been awful but there's a new creative team on it now. They're tv writers and this is their first comic though so it might ALSO be terrible. Still, it at least sounds more interesting than KSD's bullshit.

It's not a reboot. It's an 8 month timeskip + some multiversal refugees + Earth-616 getting renamed Universe-8.

Carol got promoted to head of SWORD, it's a promising premise. Also for some reason Alpha Flight is there. And she'll be in Ultimates

Continuity stuff was changed in Ant-Man at least (with the cop ex husband) so its a tiny reboot in that sense. It gives writers an easy out for continuity cleanup

Problem is you don't have to read the Captain Marvel comics since they're pushing Carol as the flagship female of Marvel, you can't get away from her.

Her name should be Photon, and she should have a Super Saiyan style transformation into this form when she reaches particular emotional states as an integral part of her character. It should be like Goku, where he first transforms when he feels the purity of righteous anger in him when Krillin is killed. Carol should become Binary when she is faced with a pure force evil that needs to be met the a pure force of virtue.

She should be the face of SWORD, the force that the rest of the galaxy knows earth by, with Spider-Woman being their Samus type operator

Yeah, that's what it is. When I made this post, I hadn't read the new issue of new Avengers yet. The new issue clarified that it's the 8th iteration of 616.

Carol is supposed to be a conservative kind of woman. She's very much a right wing type rather than a leftist type. She's a career military woman who's also an irresponsible alcoholic with severe emotional issues that she represses and projects on others, like when she joined the pro registration side in Civil War because she was externalizing her own inner fear that she is dangerously unstable and needs to have some system of control over herself. She pretended like she was doing it because of all the other heroes, but she was thinking of herself the entire time

In any case, Carol wouldn't be the type to have short hair. She'd be like Emily Blunt in Sicario, a woman that's far past the point of really caring about how she looks most of the time, not out of apathy, but because she's got too much else on her mind. Carol really isn't supposed to be fashionable or cool acting.

Binary is a desperate attempt at making Carol relevant which is why they ditched it so fast. Monica was fine as Photon and Carol in theory should be best off as Captain Marvel, but writers continue to fumble with her because they haven't read anything she's been in before and think she needs to be "fixed".

That really is the issue. Nobody wants to build off of what she already is, they want to make her something completely different. Like Pym, she has gained a strange kind of emotional depth in her bizarre roller coaster of a history that needs to be woven into who she is

Good post. One of the things holding Carol back writing-wise is that she's being written by liberal writers and feminists who either intentionally or not project that mentality on the character, when that's not who she is.

I imagine the confusion is because she's never depicted as a loud asshole Republican caricature so liberal writers aren't picking up on her more conservative view of feminism.

She's basically the opposite of the confident stronk woman she's being written as. Avengers EMH got it pretty well despite how little screen time she had, but I guess it was too subtle.
