Rick isn't really Morty's Rick. Rick was a Rick that killed Morty's Rick and took his place. Rick's original Morty was the evil Morty who took over evil Rick to get back at Rick. Rick ran to take Morty as his new Morty because he Morty left him. Rick's biggest mistake was caring for Morty, and that Morty turned against him. Duh.
