The show seeds future plot points really early, which shows the crew puts a fair bit of thought into every episode and long term planning with where they're going; this is something I haven't seen with many modern cartoons.
The characters, are constantly getting more fleshed out and aren't just a bullet point list of adjectives.
The world they're slowly building is interesting and I almost always want to know more about it.

Everyone is a crybaby. Holy fuck I get that sometimes people are emotional, but I have never seen someone cry more than the characters of this show.
They often intentionally hide info about home world, the larger universe, and gem history because the story is meant to be told from Steven's perspective, which I find irritating because I'm curious about the show and world.
It seems like the MCs just ignore the larger threats far more often than they should in favor of just sitting around doing nothing. The CGs could be far more active and get way more done but they often just choose their battles and space them out over a very long time.
