Relative unknown Pom Klementieff has nabbed one of the new key roles in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

James Gunn is also back as director and writer for the follow-up, which has a release date of Mat 5, 2017. Shooting to due to start in early 2016.

Marvel conducted a wide search for its mystery part, which called for an Asian actress, doing several rounds of chemistry reads.

The role is a big break for Klementieff, who has mostly worked in France. She did, however, appear in Spike Lee’s recent remake of Japanese thriller Oldboy in a role that demanded physicality and martial arts. Oldboy was her entrée into American and English-language movies.

So yeah, Asian, multiple chemistry leads, kung fu: definitely Mantis.

Second movie according to Gunn deals with fathers, and they will touch that theme with several characters.

And he gave the indication that it was going to be more than Quill and his Space father that's not J'Sonn, and Gamora and Thanos

Drax is also a father so there might be a possibility Ronan just killed his wife and took the daughter to be one of Thanos' weapon kids (Moondragon was raised by Mentor who is Thanos' dad so I wouldn't be surprised if they just skip that and have her be one of Thanos' daughters) or maybe she survived some other way.

Phyla died remember? Hell, most of them died.

Bug went back to the Microverse as he was last seen palling around with the Micronauts in Minimum Carnage. Captain Victory was in Guardians 3k and will be in Guardians of Infinity. Mantis lives on Knowhere, Peter went to her for advice during Bendis' run. Cosmo is still head of security at Knowhere and was in Nova when Nova went to Knowhere during the Beta Ray Bill team-up arc. Adam Warlock came back in Starlin's new OGN trilogy.

So the only ones unaccounted for are Moondragon and Jack Flagg.

Well this confirms that the main villain of GotG vol. 2 isn't Thanos, and the only GotG villain that I could see him playing would be Warlock/Magus.

Although I guess I could see him as Korvac.

Either way, the villain is likely going to be either Korvac or Magus if I have to guess.

Last time Moondragon showed up was in Guardians of Knowhere and in the Korvac Saga Secret Wars tie-ins, she didn't do much in both and she died in both of them.

She hasn't made any other appearances since then.

Magus/Warlock is the most likely development both for GotG 2, which is staying autonomous, and absolutely key for Avengers 3 should they choose to adapt parts of the Infinity Gauntlet/War arcs.

It's also been noted that Gunn wanted TWO new members with at least one member being female. One has been cut out of the script because he/she/it didn't add much to the plot. The theme of GotG2 is about fathers.

Were the two characters Mantis and Moondragon? Both characters are telepaths. Marvel is taking liberties and have allowed Gunn to do a lot of that. If I suspect anything, Mantis' and Moondragon's backstories have been fused together. Mantis will likely be the character taking over Moondragon while staying green and being the daughter of Drax. Both Comics Mantis and MCU Drax are literal characters and are not big on metaphors. See where I'm going? From a writer's perspective it makes sense to streamline the two into one character.

Out of the new stuff only Guardians 3000 was readable and the Starlin stuff was all right although not for everyone.

Out of the upcoming stuff Guardians of Infinity looks like it's going to be fun (it's being written by Abnett).

The Drax solo by CM Punk and Cullen Bunn based on what CM Punk said about exploring Drax's character not to mention CM Punk is an old school cosmic fan.

The Gamora solo looks interesting too but who knows when it will come out since the writer is busy with the Cap Marv movie script. The writer is also a big cosmic and sci fan and she read the original Guardians and DnA comics as well as Starlin cosmic comics, she mentioned that Magus will be in her comic so it looks interesting.

Bendis never learns so if you like his shit just read it if not then discard it but I can't vouch for it's shitty quality, just steer away from Humphries' Star-Lord comics though those are vomit inducing.

Actually part of Celestial Madonna is set up by Pietro's death in AoU, and Wanda's likely search for purpose (given she now has none) which will run through CW and IW.

While Mantis' stuff from that will get some use from the GotG end. So Celestial Madonna might be all over the MCU without even being noticed by most folk.

Kitty is busy because she's in the GotG, she appears in Drax's mini because she's a Guardian and she'll appear in GoI if Abnett wanted to use her but I doubt that.

If Bendis leaves and the next writer doesn't want her she goes to Lemire or GTFOs.

Panther and Storm ended pretty much after Hudlin left, some writers continued using them but no one really did anything with them then AvX happened and Storm went back with the X-Men, the same will happen with Kitty most likely.

Bendis already reduced her to living in the Mos Esley part of Knowhere and had her be this lady full of plants in her house.

He also reduced her powers in Guardians of Knowhere from an Empath and pre cog telepath to just a plant kinetic ala Poison Ivy which is what she was when she was with the Avengers but since that wasn't regular Mantis it can be ignored.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he makes her fick Groot either.
