They set up this nice story where Soos, the idiot nice guy with a big heart finally finds love in an unexpected place. An implied magical AI that lives in a Japanese dating sim. They even gave her a sympathetic backstory, the moment she was born her creators tried to kill her, and she was forced to kill them in self-defense, and she was constantly bought and returned when people apparently couldn't handle dating an AI.
And then Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, made the best girl of the series do a complete 180 in personality and Soos decided to get with his perfect dream girl the show just handed to him on a silver platter, and planned to return the lonely AI to the store he bought her from. She turned into a Five Nights at Freddy's reference, and finally Soos, the idiot with a heart of gold, burned her alive.
Turns out Hirsch accidentally made best girl when he was trying to make a worst girl based on a psycho ex-girlfriend of his. He made her too likable and sympathetic and then had the main characters brutally murder her at the end of the episode, when much worse "villains" got off with way less severe punishments before and after this.
In a more recent episode a spider-woman who has definitely eaten people alive before, was planning to do it to the main characters, and will do it in the future, was left completely alone and free to do these things.
