Pretty much, man. People say Batman:Snow is good but don't believe them. It's horrible.

Ironically enough, the New 52 annual that changed his origin and pissed everyone off is probably the best comic story Freeze has ever had.

Pretty much, but the thing is you can only keep your frozen wife hidden in cryostasis and break out of prison to steal shit so much before she's either going to die or you cure her, then you lose that sympathetic angle and become just an other asshole with a theme.

I really liked that comic aside from the whole origin reboot. I'm not sure why they felt the need to change the origins of a character that has one of the best origin stories in Batman's rogues.

This. Heart of Ice is a GOAT Batman story but that kind of story doesn't have a very long shelf-life. You can only tell that story so many times before you start wondering why Bruce hasn't fronted the money to cure Nora himself.

Arkham Origins: Cold, Cold Heart is essentially a video game adaptation of Heart of Ice. Best Arkham DLC by far.

They did it as a cop out so they can use him regularly. By establishing that Nora is just a fiction and that Freeze is just crazy, they can now justify his actions as "because he's crazy".

You know what would at least been tolerable? If Freeze had the realization that there was no cure, that Nora would never recover and he was left with only his memories. So either he just gets delusional and tries recreating those frozen moments in time or else just turn him resentful to the world

as hinted by >>77063775 its one of the limits of the genre's standard format, in that the story is expected to be continuous, recurring, with semi-static plot progression.
its difficult to execute the character well while fulfilling those requirement considering their characterization and motives as presented in the show.
