Hello /co/. I wanted to hear ya'lls experiences on stories. When you find a story you really enjoy and that you connect with the characters, the connection runs pretty deep. Quite a few people even feel emptiness after the story is finished for good because they were that attached to the story and its characters.
My question to you is, as you enjoy the story, what imagery is going through your head that helps increase the attachment to the story?
Just a really general example: If you are reading a comic, some people imagine themselves as the protagonist and experience the story through his/her eyes, becoming that person.
Personally, when I get into the story, in my mind I inject a version of myself that fits into the story line. If it's comic books, some superhero rendition of me is in there along for the ride. If it is about magic, maybe some version of me that can cast some limited range of spells. Particularly, when I mentally add myself into the story, I limit what I can do. Like for the comics, I'll be a street leveler just being dazzled by all the crazy stuff that comes along and trying to keep up. And that adds to the thrill of what's going on.
So tell me about your experience as you read. Or maybe you don't attach with the characters, even ones you like. You can talk about that too and why you do that instead. I'm curious to see what anons think while they read.
