>>77079876Well written stories tend to use external problems as a metaphor for internal conflict. Steven lacks subtext by having characters straight up bawl out, "I WANNA DO IT FOR YOU, ROSE!" "I HATE MYSELF, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE ME!", "YOU'RE AN INFERIOR RACE TO ME, I AM THE SUPERIOR GEM!" and "YOU STOLE ROSE FROM ME, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!".
It's baffling why people call this show "deep" when the dialogue is evidence how on the surface and blatant the characters actually are.
Always Sunny has characters with more internal conflict than Steven Universe. And it never has to rely on characters bawling and blushing to show it.
