I love The Crow, both the comic and the movie. Growing up around Detroit with many drug addict family members the comic definitely captures the sort of depressing urban crime filled scene of the area. And the movie was just a great comic book action flick, to me just as good as Batman and those two haven't been topped yet in my opinion.

The Crow is easily my pick for best comic book movie.

But let's be honest here, "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" is a better movie.
I mean what other movie has the bad guys show how evil they are by eating deviled eggs? Or has an actual pimp marry Tara Reid so her boyfriend can turn into satan.
Or has a half naked indian dancing around to revive a bird.
Wicked Prayer was the best. I haven't laughed that hard at a movie in a long time.

It still annoys me there is no release of the extended version of City of Angels.
For those not in the know. There was a version that aired on PPV that had a ton of additional scenes and an alternate ending.
But it's never been released outside of that and so if you didn't catch it back then, you're SOL.

The Crow has one of the most tragic backstories in the medium man. I mean the author and his personal life and what happened with the Brandon Lee, it's a beautiful book but fuck there's so much tragedy around it. I'm glad to hear that the writer is in a better place mentally now.

Him being in a better place is the only reason the deluxe was done with the care it was. He states that he pretty much disowned the story, but Brandon's fiancé had helped him come to terms.
There's a beautiful line in the forward about the importance of love being remembered.

Instead of making ANOTHER movie on this I'd wish O'Barr would just get an artist to redo this step by step, basically get an artist in the same studio and get him to draw EXACTLY was O'Barr envisions. He has great vision but I don't think he's an amazing penciller.

Yeah, a few months back when we started getting the first fresh news in a while - it wasn't sounding good.
Sounded like they didn't know what they wanted, especially regarding what direction to take the Gang.

You're right though, a mashed up version would be the wrong thing. I would love something way more faithful to the source (even though the first movie is worthwhile) - but I'm not holding my breath.

Many keks were had. Trejo's scene was definitely a huge "WTF" moment. All in all, that whole film literally made no sense

On a different note, what would you guys think of a new "The Crow" film? Like a reboot, perhaps a bit darker than the first film (which was brilliant in and of itself, btw) but a bit closer to the original comic in terms of the angst and torment of Eric Draven?

It would be hard to get that sort of thing done, given the pop cultural manifestation of the Crow to the public audience.
Since a lot of this original story really is Eric sinking into his despair and loads of flashbacks/dream sequences.

But if they could do it, then I say go for it. The development-hell'd reboot doesn't sound promising though

Also considering the way film makers are making movie clones nowadays instead of original-feeling films has any expectation of a good, faithful retelling of this story at a huge low. They gave it a new center and actioned it up a bit, and it's very pragmatic at the end of the day.

It would be hard to sell a retelling done right.
That said, I still vote for Sam Witwer.

They rebooted a lot of the story when they did "Stairway to Heaven " imo they did an okay job with the Skull Cowboy on that series, but fucked pretty much everything else. Crows and Snakes, hero mode make-up, T-bird revived... What a mess.
