I thought they did a decent job making her emotional journey different than Aang's, although there was room for improvement everywhere and I wasn't that impressed she and Mako were such pills until Season 3, by which time Bolin had started to go bad.
I legitimately liked LoK, but I feel like the whole series would be ten times better if it got a redo from the top.
