I agree. First issue was kinda slow but second was pretty fun. The rest of the books so far are boring in comparison, although I do like Karnak.

There's a big drop off after those two. ASM hasn't been bad, *yet*. Ant-Man was entertaining enough. Karnak was a big disappointment.

Thought the second issue of ASM was a boring mess just like the first issue. Only thing saving it is the art so far. I kinda liked Karnak but it was jarring at first with how unlikeable and assholish Karnak was from the jump.

I liked uncanny Inhumans more, partly because there was something off about the maker. In Ultimate he did all he did to fix the world, here he seems like he is doing just because he has nothing better to do. I would have put strange and Karnak above it as well but chapter two changed my mind.

I thought the first issue of ASM was fun. The second issue wasn't, I'll give you that.

As much as I hate to use buzzwords when talking about a book, but I can't think of anything else to describe Karnak as other than "edgy."

I just read the IGN review and it does have some fair criticisms like Wiccan being too big and the team being very random, but I think they were a bit harsh grading it. I guess Sandoval's art really is divisive. If you don't like his style you're not going to enjoy the book.

Even though Ellis can do better and I agree Karnak is disappointing, I don't agree that those other books are better. If I hadn't read anything else by Ellis before I'd think the first issue was pretty great.

Songbird's kind of got credibility, it's just that writers don't remember she exists outside the context of Thunderbolts. The entire rest of the team besides her and Clint are teenagers. And even here most people's reaction to these rosters have been "Why are there kids on the Avengers now?"

DaCosta comes from the X-Men though, and they've never really had an arbitrary age limit on when someone was ready for prime time.

Wiccan, Hulkling, Power Man, and White Tiger are all fully recognized Avengers, though. Even Academy grads are considered support roster.

Then the Initiative had a ton of teenagers on active teams. So it's definitely not without precedent.

This is pretty much the most complaints that I've seen, specifically Billy looking weird (the other being that they can't follow rhe plot).

This is about as straight-forward as plots get.

>Creatures attack city
>Heroes go to city
>Heroes fight creatures
>There's a bigger villain behind the attack that the heroes will have to face in the future

Of course whoever wrote that had to spin their dislike of the comic (which they seemingly didn't read seeing as they got the name wrong) to fit their agenda. I remember seeing the initial preview and thinking Wiccan was too big, but in reading the first two issues I never felt that Wiccan felt out of place. Sandoval has a distinct style. Whether you like the comic or not really hinges on the art.

Avengers #0 was garbage. I wouldn't hold any of the books up compared to the small previews in any of those $5.99 Marvel books. Al Ewing has been on a roll and Kenneth Rocafort's art is outstanding.

Sandoval's Squirrel Girl is definitely one of the better takes on the character I've ever seen. Maybe it's the contrast of just how shit North and Henderson's Squirrel Girl ongoing is, but Doreen is really one of the more enjoyable parts of this book so far.

Also Karnak will probably end up being the best, though the first issue wasn't particularly great. The coloring hurt the art and Ellis really overdid it on the whole nihilism thing.

All of them are 18+ though. Billy, Teddy, Vic, and Ava are all 18. Squirrel Girl is 20. Pod's age was never given, but she seemed to be early 20s.

Then Melissa and Roberto are mid-20s.

It's certainly a young team, but they're all adults.

Edgy as it may appear to be, I think Ellis tried to balance it out with jokes. He followed the speech he gave his followers with the bit about cleaning the toilets, the torture scene was explained with isn't that how they do it in the movies. The only thing he let hang was the thing he said to the parents.

i love stegman but i really do feel like he was rushed here or something, at least on the first 2 issues.

You must be new. Everyone loved Stegman pre-Uncanny Avengers.

But he decided to randomly make all of his figures look ULTRA stylized and borderline anorexic. Its very off putting.

But before that Uncanny Avengers issue, Stegman was very well received around these parts.
