This is basically kidnapping isn't it? these guys have no legal authority to imprison these people. sure they're super villains who deserve it but they aren't even given a bed or blankets. Does anyone even remember to feed them?

They adress the feeding issue in a deleted scene. And there's a whole episode dedicated to the implications in episode 22.

The show has explained that, yes, it is highly unethical and illegal, and its okay because..I don't know.

This method, which they're still using, was put into use by a known murderer. But whatever, its that or Barry keeps straight up murdering his villains. Don't bother getting the police or the government involved or anything.

They're not actually shown feeding them. It's just a quick scene where Barry and Caitlin do down into the pipeline with a trolley full of food and joke about what each one prefers to eat.

I think the meta wing is for full blown criminals whilst the pipeline is just a temporary thing.

The only people they've put in the pipeline since the meta wing opened are Jay, who they were just holding until they could prove his story, and Hewitt, who they said they'll release once he calmed down.
