I don't mean that he likes writing things that will become popular and well-received, mind you, I mean that whenever someone else takes a premise without much attention and gives it such a strong run that people come to care about it, he wants to jump on that bandwagon as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, he's a hack who thinks he knows better than the original creators. So we get what happened to Sentry. We get what happened to The Hood. We get what is currently in the process of happening to the Guardians of the Galaxy, and now we get this.
